It’s been nearly three years since the treasured Uncharted series came to a close. Across five incredible games, the classic Naughty Dog title filled fans with years of memories with Nathan Drake at the center. By themselves, each game was a breathtaking masterpiece, showcasing the beautiful scenery of the world from the vast Arabian Desert to the mountains of Nepal.
With such a massive collection of incredible imagery to choose from, artists have had plenty of inspiration for some jaw-dropping original art. From the scenic landscape pieces to tributes to the game’s beloved heroes, let’s take a look at 10 extraordinary pieces of Uncharted fan art.
10 Uncharted Uncolored
On top of the incredible scenic shots that make up some of the game’s bests moments, there are so many incredible scenes that make the game so emotional, intense, and informed. Well, artist Catzy Munster has thrived in paying tribute to those iconic moments in her two uncolored Uncharted pieces.
While still showcasing incredible portraits of the game’s main characters, she’s able to capture some of the most memorable moments from both Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. With subtle nods to scenes like the train crash in the second game to the caged skeleton from the fourth game’s loading screen, Munster’s pieces are astonishingly detailed and fairly nostalgic for any fan of the Uncharted series.
9 Uncharted 4
Although fan art pieces of fantastically detailed and scenic images from the game are unbelievable, sometimes the best works of art are the most simplistic. Artist Mahyar Charejoo has made themselves notable in the realm of Reddit fan art, and their Uncharted piece brings that exact simplistic beauty to light.
Using the franchise’s fourth game as inspiration, Charejoo manages to work every main character into an aesthetically brilliant, two-tone colored piece. They also manage to work in one of the game’s most unforgettable icons: the statue of Henry Avery. The design may be simple and the use of color minimal, but it’s hard to argue that this piece isn’t a masterpiece.
8 Sic Parvis Magna
If there’s one thing that every Uncharted fan will remember about the game’s main hero, Nathan Drake, is his signature motto. The Latin phrase “Sic Parvis Magna,” translated to “Greatness from small beginnings,” is something players were introduced to in the very first Uncharted game and a phrase that would go on to help define the franchise’s iconic character.
Kat Leyva has created several incredible Uncharted pieces, depicting not just characters like Nathan Drake, but others such as Chloe Frazer and Elena Fisher as well. However, none truly stack up to this piece tributing Drake and his famous ring, all highlighting the symbolic motto of him and his ancestor, Sir Francis Drake. Even in just black and white, Leyva’s piece tells such an enriching story of Nathan Drake and what truly makes his character what it is.
7 The Lost City
Well, at a certain point you knew some of those breathtaking scenic pieces would have to make an appearance. First up comes a piece from Dawnpu, an artist who’s developed a strong following with unbelievable landscape works of art.
Luckily for Uncharted fans, he has proven to be a big fan of the game franchise as well. His portfolio includes several Uncharted pieces, including this absolute jaw-dropper that pays tribute to the franchise’s second game. The beauty of the lost city of Shambala is on full display, with the artist using such an incredible pallet of colors to do so. It’s easy to get lost in this piece as there is so many beautiful and intricate details from top to bottom.
6 A Tribute
Most Uncharted fan art pieces take their inspiration from one game of the series and make something amazing from it. There are few, however, that are capable of doing so with nearly every game in the franchise. Milos Ckonjovic, or punisher357, has achieved that and more with his tribute to the four games with Nathan Drake at the center.
His minimalist designs simply show Nathan Drake in the foreground, with wildly detailed and colored backgrounds that pay tribute to the different settings of each Uncharted game. Ckonjovic has created some incredible posters for the Uncharted franchise and has done so for plenty of other popular game franchises like Call of Duty, Assassins Creed, and The Witcher that are worth checking out.
5 Nathan Drake In Motion
For all the intense and heart-pounding action and adventure that comes with the Uncharted games, few fan art pieces do as good of a job at capturing that as this piece from Cyril Terpent. Paying tribute to the franchise’s third game, he’s effortlessly depicted Nathan Drake’s non-stop motion.
He also was able to accurately portray what feels like half of what the Uncharted games deal with: Nathan Drake running away from someone else. The blending of Drake and his chasers into the environment of Cartegena in Colombia also flows perfectly into the motion emulating from the piece. Overall, it’s the depicted motion that drives this piece and it beautifully represents the action that made the Uncharted games so fun to play.
4 Chloe & Nadine
Uncharted fans were pretty shocked to hear that there would be a game that didn’t feature Nathan Drake as the protagonist. However, if there were to be more Uncharted games, it made sense for Drake to take a backseat after four games while some other characters became the main focus.
Well, this masterpiece from Elisabeth Aarebrot Madsen perfectly showcases what made Uncharted: The Lost Legacy so incredible. While the visuals of the game were obviously breathtaking, it was the portrayals and journey of Chloe Frazier and Nadine Ross that made the game such a fantastic addition to the Uncharted lineage. Madsen’s piece beautifully captures the game’s two heroines, taking inspiration from the game’s actual cover, all set in front of a majestic and entrancing background that makes the characters pop that much more.
3 Uncharted 3
Artist Patrick Brown is somewhat of an icon and a pro when it comes to fan art. He’s responsible for some of the most incredible and widely-shared fan art pieces of all time. From television and film to video games, Brown can create fan art for basically anything, and luckily has done so on several occasions for the Uncharted franchise.
Taking inspiration from Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, Brown has basically turned the game’s most memorable moments and the incredible roster of characters into a movie poster. From Nathan Drake himself to supporting characters like Elena and Sully all the way to the villains of Marlowe and Talbot, Brown has given everyone a chance to shine in this piece. It captures such amazing action and motion while still having the structure of a movie poster. All in all, it’s a breathtaking tribute to one of the franchise’s best games and should be praised for its creativity, detail, and overall beauty.
2 Ruins
Part of what sets the Uncharted franchise apart from any other game franchise is its attention to detail in both the visual and historical elements. In each and every game, there is a new location, whether it is some tomb or even a mythical city for the player to explore. It’s the visual brilliance of those locations that constantly drew players back in.
Here, from FlorentLlamas, we see that brilliance on full display. It’s settings like the one he’s depicted here that make these games so aesthetically spectacular. His attention to detail and use of color here also mirrors the same elements of the games that made them such visual marvels.
1 Redesign Temple
Staying with that same theme, the temples seen throughout the Uncharted games are another aspect that made them such visual masterpieces. That brings us to one of the most unbelievable breathtaking fan art pieces that you will ever see. In fact, it’s so astonishing that it’ll have you wondering how it’s even a piece of fan art at all and not something stripped from the walls of a museum.
Paying tribute to the Himilayan temples of the second Uncharted game, artist k04sk has turned the game’s visuals into an astonishing masterpiece. The detail and vast use of color are just some of the many things that make this such an incredible tribute to Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. You’ll have a hard time finding a more accurate and visually stunning piece for any of the franchise’s games than this one.
