Theme parks across the world have taken a significant beating due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, with the likes of Disney World and Universal shut down. While some theme park goers were hopeful that they would be able to visit Universal at some point next month, it’s now been confirmed that both Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood will remain closed until May 31.
As part of its closure, Universal has confirmed that many of its employees are being furloughed. However, some Universal Studios employees are instead having their pay cut by 20% during the crisis.
As the world continues to grapple with the coronavirus pandemic, it’s possible that Universal Studios will extend its closure date even further, but that remains to be seen. Some companies seem optimistic that July is when things will start getting back to normal, as evidenced by Disney announcing a new July release date for Mulan, though fans will have to wait and see on that front.
While it’s disappointing for some that Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood are both temporarily closed down, there is a bright future ahead for the parks. In 2023, Universal plans on adding a Nintendo-themed park to its roster, which is sure to give even those that have already thoroughly explored both parks an excuse to make a return trip.
