Many believe that a recent Tweet is evidence the next God Of War game may be showcased at the upcoming PS5 reveal event.
PlayStation is set to hold its upcoming event on June 11, 2020. This event is supposed to highlight the power of the PlayStation 5 and “the future of gaming.” This event may very well be where Santa Monica Studio — developer of God Of War — showcase the next installment in the franchise. These rumors are floating around because on June 9, Santa Monica Studio gameplay director took to Twitter and announced that they will be present at the event.
Santa Monica Studio’s may very well be showcasing another game they are working on at this upcoming PlayStation event; however, previous events and statements from the studio are causing fans to speculate that the next God of War will be showcased. One hint that a God Of War game is to be shown is the fact that the studio recently had a job listing on its website for a senior combat designer who had knowledge of the franchise.
This job listing was posted back in the summer of 2019, meaning the new hire has now had just around a year to work on the next God Of War. Another hint that furthers this theory is that creative director of God Of War, Corey Barlog, stated in an interview with Kotaku that the studio had five games planned for the future. Having five games planned may seem like a lot; however, Corey Barlog also stated in the same interview that he wanted to develop these games quickly.
In the same interview, Corey Barlog stated that the biggest thing accomplished in the five year span that it took to build God Of War was re-building the franchises core engine. That means that, if Santa Monica Studio’s continue with the engine developed for God Of War, fans could be seeing a new installment in the franchise as soon as 2021.
While this news is all very speculative, if Corey Barlog and the team at Santa Monica Studio stay true to “developing games fast,” then in all likelihood a new God Of War game is just around the corner.
