Azerbaijan is a country that few games have explored. AzDimension’s Rainy Neon: Baku, however, has decided to make it the home of its upcoming battle royale title. A new alpha video has revealed some basic gameplay, as the game is slated for release at the end of 2021.
Taking place in 2121 - that’s perhaps a nod to its release year - Rainy Neon: Baku boasts its cyberpunk style throughout the gameplay. The neon-filled streets of Baku play host to live battles that feature various cyborgs. Each fighting machine enters into combat representing a powerful corporation in a fight for financial dominance. Whichever side wins becomes more appealing to potential customers as each fight is broadcasted to the rest of the world.
The alpha trailer opens with a synthwave score that drives our view over the Baku coastline and through its colorful streets. Blade Runner vibes emit from the city as day changes to night with flying vehicles populating the air. The rainbow colors that highlight every alley complement the cyborg’s suits and weapons. The gameplay depicts its third-person shooter format along with various firearms and defence items. The mechanics may not be groundbreaking, but the addition of rain to the futuristic backdrop obviously makes everything better.
Publisher and developer AzDimension listed some of the game’s main features including online squad play, unique abilities to each cyborg, increased vulnerability when raining, and an extensive map based on the real city of Baku. Players will also be able to use various modes of transport during gameplay.
Azerbaijan is a country contained within the Caucasus Mountains next to the Caspian Sea. It’s capital, Baku, is the setting for Rainy Neon that paints a more modern look to the city. The traditional architecture of Baku covers most of its ground, however, the Azersu and Socar Towers stand as magnificent pieces of modern architecture. Rainy Neon may look like a dense, cyberpunk metropolis, but AzDimension’s inspiration may have stemmed from these glittering monolith’s featured in the heart of the capital.
Azerbaijan has lended its scenery to a handful of games gone before. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Battlefield 4, and a handful of F1 and Tom Clancy titles have featured campaigns and races within its rural areas and mountains.
