The newest edition to Steve Jackson’s Munchkin franchise has hit the shelves, as Usaopoly (The Op) has unveiled Munchkin: Disney.

Munchkin is the brainchild of veteran games designer Steve Jackson. In the 1980s, Steve Jackson Games was formed and he began working on several success tabletop games. Notable games such as GURPS, a universal RPG system suitable for games of any genre, and Car Wars, a post-apocalyptic vehicle-based combat game, laid the foundation for greater things. In 2001 Munchkin was released and it took the RPG world by storm. It pulled on the heartstrings of gamers who loved the mash-up of comedy and fantasy elements. Several expansions have been released as well as themed, stand-alone editions released by Steve Jackson Games or third parties such as Usaopoly (TheOp) and IDW Games.

Steve Jackson, the person, is American and is often confused with British games designer Steve Jackson who was one of the founders of Games Workshop and co-creator of the popular Fighting Fantasy Books. To exacerbate the confusion, Steve Jackson wrote several Fighting Fantasy titles for Steve Jackson without there being any differentiation between Steve Jackson and Steve Jackson… Confused? So are we!

This time around, Munchkin: Disney takes players on an adventure into the depths of the 90+ years of the Disney archives. The object of the game is to be the first to score 10 points. It is aimed at players aged 10 and up, and a minimum number of three players is recommended. Existing players of the Munchkin franchise will feel right at home as they kick open doors and face the many Disney villains we all know and love.

Collect the treasure and items like Magic Carpet from Aladdin, and befriend heroes like Elsa; all while avoiding one of the many curses. Players may work together or against each other, and any combination in between as they try to get to 10 first. That said, there are no friends, and no one should be trusted.

This isn’t the first Munchkin game to bare a Disney franchise. In November 2019, Usaopoly launched Munchkin: Ducktales, which saw players competing against each other with aid of Huey, Dewey, and Louie and, of course, Scrooge McDuck himself. Munchkin: Disney is available for order now on Usaopolys The Op website and from all good games retailers.
