The Nintendo Switch is without a doubt one of the best consoles ever made, but there is always room for improvement. One problem faced by some users relates to overheating while in portable mode for the original console, and even for the Switch Lite, but now Japanese company Thanko is releasing a special Joy-Gripon with a built-in cooling system.
The accessory looks similar to other grips made to enhance comfort for long-term play, which is useful given the somewhat awkward position our hands need to take to handle the console, but has two fans that circulate air in the back. Not only that, but it includes a 5000mAh battery pack that should significantly boost the playtime available before needing to recharge the console.
Of course, not everyone needs this kind of cooling to use their Switch, but a quick search online reveals that it seems to target players with older consoles. There could be many reasons for this, such as the thermal paste needing to be replaced, or certain games pushing the hardware to its absolute limits, as we see more and more developers make some truly fantastic and unexpected ports, with games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Complete Edition still a marvelous achievement to behold.
For those not brave enough to attempt a reapplication of thermal paste or who do not want to send their console away for repair, the Joy-Gripon might be a perfect solution. The handy grips and extra battery life are certainly a bonus in themselves. While the console is a hit around the world, most people can attest to the discomfort of trying to play for extended periods of time, which is why many other third-party grips feature a slight difference in height between the left and right grip to account for the two thumb sticks being at different levels.
