You can’t reach Valhalla alone (or create a build that becomes all the rage on the internet) without the right combination of food and Viking work-ethic. While we can’t help you with the latter, we have the perfect guide for the former. To keep you and your Viking friends well-fed, this represents the top food items and how they benefit your character in Valheim.

No matter how far you’ve journeyed (or how long it took you to build recreations of famous Lord of the Rings locations), you can find something useful to eat. Whether you prefer to enjoy the game solo (or with friends, most likely, because Valheim remains Steam’s top seller for the fourth week in a row) procuring the right items and crafting the right food is critical to survival.

10 Cooked Fish

Cooked Fish gives your Viking 45 health, 2 HP/tick, and 25 stamina for 20 minutes. As the name suggests, you only need 1 Raw Fish and a cooking station to create this food item. Depending on what the world generates for you, this may become a local necessity for your settlement.

If you (or your other Viking friends) enjoy fishing, this might become a staple of your character’s diet. It’s possible that no character has managed to reach Valhalla without chests filled with deliciously cooked fish.

9 Bread

Bread boosts your character with 40 health, 2 HP/tick, and 70 stamina for 30 minutes. You can craft this in a cauldron with 10 Barley Flour grown by yourself or Viking friends. If you’re as industrious as some other players, you may even trade for it via your own port.

You will have to construct a windmill to turn barley into the flour necessary to enjoy fish sandwiches. It doesn’t hurt to have friends to help you build a productive (and well-guarded) farm.

8 Turnip Stew

Turnip Stew provides your Viking with 50 health, 2 HP/tick, and 50 stamina for around 26 and a half minutes. You must gather 1 Raw Meat and 3 Turnip to create this food item in a cauldron.

If you want to cook this for yourself, you will have to hunt woodland creatures for the Raw Meat and grow the turnips. Vikings can find turnip seeds in the Swamp biome and hunt boar, deer, or wolves for their meat.

7 Sausages

Sausages give Vikings in Valheim 60 health, 3 HP/tick, and 40 stamina for a little over 26 minutes. You will need to gather 2 Entrails, 1 Raw Meat, and 4 Thistle to make this nutritious and delicious tube meat!

You will have to fight, hunt, and gather to create this food item in Valheim. A Draugr or Draugr Elite drops their Entrails, Raw Meat comes from wildlife like deer, and you can find Thistle in the Black Forest or Swamp biomes.

6 Fish Wraps

Fish warps give your Viking 60 health, 4 HP/tick, and 90 stamina for up to 40 minutes. You need 4 Barley Flour and 2 Cooked Fish to create this delicious snack in a cauldron. You’ll need the energy if you plan to create epic builds inspired by your favorite movies, like this settlement that looks like Endor.

It’s not difficult to gather what you need to make this item, especially if you enjoy fishing and farming. Stack piles of ten of these in the community stash and give everyone what every Viking should have: fish and bread.

5 Cooked Serpent Meat

Cooked serpent meat gives players 80 health, 4 HP/tick, and 40 stamina for 33.3 minutes. You don’t have to spice this up with anything. If you survive facing the sea beast, you only need a cooking station.

Serpents tend to drop 6 - 10 meat chunks after Vikings slay them. The cooking time is approximately 30 seconds, so don’t go AFK if you’re responsible for creating these for the rest of the clan.

4 Cooked Lox Meat

Cooked Lox Meat gives players 70 Health, 3 HP/tick, and 40 stamina for 33.3 minutes. This dish does not require any fancy cooking, just the raw meat, a cooking station, and a careful eye that doesn’t burn the item.

If a bad Viking forgets to watch, the meat can turn into coal without a dedicated chef. This almost has the same stats as the Cooked Serpent Meat, which means that players likely make more use of this than the other.

3 Serpent Stew

Serpent Stew gives Vikings a hearty 80 health, 4 HP/tick, and 80 stamina for 40 minutes. You will need 1 Mushroom, 1 Cooked Serpent Meat, and 2 Honey to cook this one up in a cauldron.

You can find these ingredients without much problem after killing serpents (and building boats to sail the open sea) becomes a regular event. You can find mushrooms on the ground in the Black Forest and Meadows, serpents in the water, and Honey from (what else?) beehives.

2 Blood Pudding

Blood Pudding takes the top spot on the list because it provides 90 health, 50 stamina, and its effects last for 40 minutes. You will need 2 Thistle, 2 Bloodbags, and 4 Barley Flour to craft this in a cauldron.

It’s not easy to gather the required materials, but it’s worth your time and effort (especially since the bosses are even harder after the latest update). You can find Thistle in the Black Forest or Swamp biomes, leeches drop Bloodbags, and you’ll have to grow (or steal) the Barley Flour.

1 Lox Meat Pie

Lox meat pie gives your biking 80 Health, 4 HP/tick, and 80 Stamina for 40 minutes. You will have to gather 2 Cooked Lox Meat, 4 Barley Flour, and 2 Cloudberries to create this delicious (and nutritious) food in a cauldron.

The ingredients are not difficult to find for this one, especially if you’ve decided to breed Lox in your settlement. The Barley Flour can be grown (or stolen), and the Cloudberries and the Lox are in the plains biome.
