Whenever players defeat one of the five bosses in Valheim for the first time, they are granted powers called Forsaken Powers. Each of these powers grants a certain buff to the player for a short duration when activated, and each player can have one of these powers in their inventory at a time.
Once the players have defeated all five bosses and collected their trophies, they have access to all powers and can choose between them in their starting spawn area. Some of these powers are situational, and some are currently not useful in most cases. Considering some of the powers affect nearby players as well, knowing which power is the best option for each situation, can make exploring the wonderful world of Valheim and defeating the enemies they encounter much easier.
5 The Elder
This forsaken power drops from the second boss of the game, the Elder. While the boss of the Black Forest Biome is very dangerous and challenging, and summoning and defeating it requires a lot of preparation and planning, its power is somewhat disappointing in return. This forsaken power allows players to chop wood faster for five minutes, with a 20-minute cooldown. A very situational buff for when players are planning on a large amount of construction.
While building home bases and farms is an important part of the game, this is not the best power to have, but since it does have a small area of effect, it can be a little useful for one player to carry this forsaken power in a group game. But overall, its niche use makes it the most forgettable forsaken power in the current state of the game.
4 Yagluth
Defeating Yagluth, the fifth and currently, the last boss of the game gives the player access to this forsaken power. This power gives the player resistance to fire, frost, and lightning damage for five minutes, with a 20-minute cooldown. Currently, this is only useful for defeating Moder for a second time since she’s the only boss that deals elemental damage, or for exploring Valheim’s Ashlands since enemies such as Surtlings deal fire damage.
Valheim is currently in early access, and there is a lot of new content and expansions are planned for the future of the game. Some of this new content is rumored to be bosses that can make this forsaken power worthwhile since defeating them requires the elemental resistance granted by this forsaken power’s buff. But until then, there isn’t much use for the last boss’s power.
3 Moder
Defeating the boss of the Mountain Biome, Moder, gives the players the ability of faster sailing. This power grants a five-minute buff that tailwinds the boat for the duration, with a 20-minute cooldown. Unfortunately, this power only affects the winds while sailing, and it has no effect on land activities. And even in the boat, it doesn’t stack with existing winds for more speed.
This is a very situational forsaken power, and the Icy Queen’s wind-themed buff is somewhat disappointing and not as exciting as it could’ve been. But having Moder’s buff is necessary for exploring the seas and traveling faster and safer if you are not planning on sailing with wolves.
2 Eikthyr
This is the first forsaken power that the player will unlock by defeating the Elk god Eikthyr, and it’s one of the most useful powers throughout the whole game. This power will reduce stamina required for running and jumping by 60 percent, making traveling and getting out of dangerous situations a lot easier. This can be very effective especially during the early stages of the game when players don’t have access to foods that can buff their stamina.
While this is a useful buff for playing solo, this forsaken power can be even more powerful in groups. This forsaken power has a five-minute duration with a 20-minute cooldown, and like the Elder power, it does have a small radius and can affect nearby players. Since it doesn’t have a universal cooldown, a group of four players with the Eikthyr forsaken power can have the buff active at all times, which makes exploring a lot faster and easier.
1 Bonemass
Defeating Bonemass, the boss of the Swamp Biome, grants players the best forsaken power currently in the game. This power gives the player considerable resistance against all forms of physical damage for five minutes with a 20-minute cooldown. While some enemies and bosses such as Modor, oozes, and Surtlings deal nonphysical damage, this buff is still a very powerful effect.
Most of the enemies and NPCs in Valheim deal physical damage, so this power is a must-have for exploring most parts of the game. If the player isn’t planning on sailing, going up against Modor, or they don’t need the stamina reduction for their movement, Bonemass offers the best buff in Valheim. Collecting this particular Forsaken Power is something a player will not regret.
