The world may be stuck indoors, but come April 7, a whole lot of people aren’t going to mind one bit as VALORANT begins its highly anticipated closed beta for players in Europe, Canada, Russia, Turkey, and the United States. Riot Games has stated that there is a possibility of additional rollouts in the near future to other regions depending on developments relating to the current Covid-19 pandemic.
Players seeking access to the game need to complete three easy steps. First, create a Riot account by clicking here, and link that to a Twitch account which can be created here. When the closed beta begins in your region, watch any of the specified VALORANT streams highlighted on Twitch for the chance to gain access.
Twitch drops have often been used to provide beta access to games in the past, and Riot Games recently did so with Legends of Runeterra. This writer was lucky enough to gain access by watching Twitch Steamer DisguisedToast, now on FaceBook Gaming, for only a few hours. Meanwhile, a colleague here at TheGamer found himself unlucky for about a week of viewing before he snagged himself beta access, so stream, stream, stream to maximize the odds of obtaining access for yourself!
VALORANT looks to change the landscape for 5v5 tactical shooters for the PC. So far, the game looks to blend the unique character abilities seen in Overwatch, providing cover, explosives, barriers, and healing abilities. On the other hand, the new game demands that players use the same type of precision needed in CS:GO or Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, rewarding player skill in combat.
Today’s Press Release has not signaled if players will keep any progress made in the game during the closed beta, but if we were to use Legends of Runeterra as a recent comparison, it would be safe to assume that this may be the case. As the game has been confirmed to be free-to-play, with certain characters available to all at launch and others purchased with real money or in-game currency, it is never too early to get a jump on leveling up an account.
For now, be sure to complete the above steps to secure access to one of the most anticipated titles in competitive gaming for 2020!
