Valorant, Riot Games’ online multiplayer shooter, is currently in closed beta. Given Valorant’s development state, as well as the ever-increasing amount of players being invited, bugs, glitches and exploits are bound to be discovered. One glitch, which allows the Agent Cypher to hover, may need to be fixed sooner rather than later.
One of Valorant’s Agents, Sage, has an ability that creates destructible walls. These walls can be stood on by allies or enemies, but if they’re destroyed, gravity takes hold and any players standing on the wall will fall. At least, that’s what’s supposed to happen.
Another of Valorant’s Agents, Cypher, can activate a camera and the look through it in first-person. The glitch is that if Cypher looks through the camera while standing on the wall, and then the wall is shot out, Cypher will remain hovering in the air. They must stay looking through the camera to remain hovering, which makes its utility limited, but it does allow Cypher to hide in some very out of the way places.
Reddit user TheNeoStrike provided a perfect example of how the Valorant glitch can be abused. At the start of a match, TheNeoStrike uses the glitch to hover just above a doorframe. Later in the match, two enemies run through TheNeoStrike’s door, never thinking to check for floating targets. TheNeoStrike leaves their camera and drops to the floor, then shoots the two enemies in the back. It’s certainly not sportsmanlike, but it may catch even more players unexpectedly if Riot doesn’t patch Valorant for the bug soon.
Valorant releases on PC this summer.
