Valorant added some new characters for players to use in the past month. However, despite the rising popularity of the new character Reyna, there has been a lot of frustration around Reyna’s somewhat overpowered toolkit.

Many Valorant players feel that Reyna is overpowered, considering how easy she easy to use. Reyna is not just a character with a powerful ultimate, but powerful abilities as well, that have virtually no drawbacks, or at the least minimal risks, and make picking her a no brainer. While it can be fun to dominate a lane with this new character, it feels unfair to do so at the cost of having a fair character balance.

Over on Reddit, user xSilverzXx posted a breakdown of their problems with Reyna and potential solutions. The biggest challenge for xSilverzXx is Reyna’s ultimate being having a timer that lasts far too long with the overpowered ability to refresh on a kill, making this ability have no risk when deploying. The ultimate itself gives Reyna a destructive increase to fire rate, outlines enemies, gives invisibility, and just generally makes this already annoying character more difficult to kill. xSilverzXx pointed out that the problem with Reyna is not her ability to challenge numerous opponents, but instead her low skill ceiling that makes this character far too powerful in any hands.

Despite some agreement over possible nerfs, some commenters disagreed with the suggestions and stating that this may just be an issue with player skill and familiarity. While Reyna may seem overpowering at first, some players said that this could be due to the fact many players are just not used to dealing with Reyna and that after enough experience, they can easily counter Reyna. However, there was some mutual understanding that Reyna’s ultimate needed a rework.

This post was a month ago, and since then, Reyna has received a buff, with players confused at the lack of a nerf for Reyna. Anecdotal evidence from players shows a growing frustration with Reyna’s Leer ability, which seems far too easy to have readily available and is more than just a powerful flash. Being able to shoot a blinding orb through walls that forces players to look away, and controlling their line of sight is pretty powerful. A reminder that Leer is not an ultimate, just a standard ability for purchase. Whether a nerf comes soon or not is up in the air, but it is interesting to see if new characters will hard counter Reyna, or players will quickly develop strategies to combat Reyna as they get used to her in the meta.
