The news that World of Darkness fans around the globe have been dreading to hear is now official, as Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 has been delayed until 2021.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 is a video game adaptation of the horror-themed tabletop RPG. It’s the sequel to one of the best (and buggiest) PC RPGs of the 2000s. The game puts the players in the shoes of a newly created vampire, as they try to navigate the different factions and supernatural races that run the city of Seattle.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 has already been delayed once before, as it was originally intended to be released in Q1 2020, before being pushed to later in the year. It seems that the Kindred of Seattle won’t be arriving in 2020, as a statement on the VtM_Bloodlines Twitter page has announced that the game has been pushed back to 2021.
The reason given for the delay is that it needs more time to meet the standard of quality that the producers expect the game to have at launch, which is hard to argue with. A number of games have been delayed due to COVID-19 (as well as movies and TV shows), so it’s no surprise that Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 has also been pushed back. The fact that the game lacked a solid release date meant that this news isn’t unexpected. One side effect of the delay is that the next-gen versions of the game should launch alongside the current ones, depending on the final release date.
Shigeru Miyamoto famously said that a delayed game can eventually be good, but a bad game is bad forever. The original Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines was infamously rushed out the door in an incomplete state, so fans of the series know all too well that a delay for the sequel can only mean good things in the long run. Gamers have waited a long time to return to the world of Vampire: The Masquerade, and they can stand to wait a little longer if it means a better product in the end.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X in 2021.
