Sora is a beloved character in the video game space, but do we know what his musical tastes would be? His sensitivity and upbeat nature give us a few ideas as to what would be on his playlist. Listen along, Kingdom Hearts fans!
His sense of adventure!
In the first Kingdom Hearts, Sora and his friends longed to explore the worlds outside their tiny island. He finally got his wish as he joined Donald & Goofy on a quest to find his friends and King Mickey. However, that adventurous spirit lives on as he is constantly wowed by the worlds he visits like the city of San Fransokyo or Rapunzel’s tower in the Kingdom of Corona (yep, it’s called that). The songs that resemble this adventurous spirit are “Wake Me Up” by Avicii, and “How Far I’ll Go” by Auli’i Cravalho. Both songs inspire their listeners to go out there and explore rather than being stuck in their old ways. Let’s get on that raft, just the two of us!
Summer vibes
Despite being the technophobe he is, he might be able to figure out how to play music from his Gummi Phone. If that is the case, he’d have this music blaring on the beach as they were playing in the sand and in the water. “Surf” from Hyper Potions invokes that summer spirit with an upbeat tempo and melody, and “Home” from Phillip Phillips elicits the importance of togetherness. Like the song “Home,” he finds people who are lost and make them feel at home with him and the island. Neku in Dream Drop Distance tells him he shouldn’t trust others so much, but Sora accepts people for who they are and tries his best to become friends with them.
“Grow Up” by Simple Plan is included because he loves to skateboard in Radiant Garden and Twilight Town in Kingdom Hearts 2. The Simple Plan song was in fact included in Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure, and the lyrics almost perfectly resemble Sora’s goofy nature; he never grows up in the series. He just wants to have fun, after all.
He’s an emotional waterfall
Time and time again, Sora isn’t afraid to show his feelings, unlike many male protagonists in the gaming space. To see Kairi, he begged Saix on his knees (before getting rejected), and then without hesitation told her how he felt when they reunited. This is why we think he’d listen to a lot of melodramatic emotional songs about love. He goes out of his way for his love Kairi, and we think he’d walk “A Thousand Miles” for her.

With Sora etching his face in the cave with a paopu fruit next to Kairi’s, we think he might be a romantic. So, “Into The Stars’” vision of singing to the stars and taking Kairi’s hand might leap Sora’s heart into the stratosphere. We could see him enjoying the emotional nature of these songs on the beach with a night sky above him and Kairi. “Yellow” by Coldplay is super soppy too!
This boat runs on happy faces!
Sora is an infectiously happy soul in the Kingdom Hearts series, and we included songs that match his personality! He’d definitely listen to “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield, “Happy” by Pharrell Williams, and “Mr Blue Sky” by the Electric Light Orchestra. But even Sora has trouble keeping his chin up in the direst of situations. Perhaps, he’d quickly listen to “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin to help him not lose hope! He also showed a bit of musical flair in Atlantica in Kingdom Hearts 2, so perhaps he’d appreciate “A Million Dreams” by Ziv Zaifman, Hugh Jackman, and Michele Williams too!
