It’s pretty obvious after five minutes behind the wheel that Volvo has got a star on its hands in the XC40. If you’re after the freshest and most sophisticated car in its market, this is the compact SUV of the moment. Only its price, badge perception, a thirsty petrol engine and some functionality not being as slick as the German competition are our minor complaints.
