If Warcraft III: Reforged didn’t quite stick with you as much as you were anticipating (you’re not alone), perhaps a new medieval strategy and management sim will do the trick.

The Unexpected Quest - from developer Rionix - is an upcoming adventure game set within a world of medieval fantasy and draws heavy inspiration from games like Warcraft III and The Settlers.

An announcement trailer was released to coincide with the game’s reveal, showcaseing in-game footage of all of the things that players can expect to encounter in The Unexpected Quest.

Players will be able to explore the surrounding forests, swamps, and mountains as they gather resources and stock up on supplies for their fortress. Building will also, of course, be a major component, with players being able to build things like mills for food and wood, as well as forges, as players develop and expand their town. Finally, questing and combat bring the adventure element to the game, featuring dungeons to explore, enemies and magic to encounter, and loot to be found.

The early look at the interface makes it seem like The Unexpected Quest would be a great entry point for new players to the genre, while the sandbox-like customizability appears to be deep for veteran management sim players.

The Unexpected Quest is expected to release later this year on PC via Steam.
