Looter shooter Warframe is an exhilarating parkour fest that evolves significantly every couple of months. The game’s vibrant characters and fluidity make gameplay a satisfying experience, and it was recently revealed that one of the title’s frames was inspired by two musical sensations.

Octavia was already one of the best Warframes to date, bringing effective team buffs and damage with her fabulous demeanor. Octavia Prime’s arrival brought increased energy and shields to the frame, along with a brand new design to set her apart from the rest. Speaking to Destructoid, Digital Extremes artist Raymond dela Cruz was asked to discuss Octavia’s popularity within the Warframe community, and the inspiration behind her unique Prime design.

Octavia Prime - equipped with her very own soundtrack in the Mandachord - received a redesign with Michael Brennan’s original concept in mind. Dela Cruz wanted to introduce a marching band theme to Octavia’s design, combined with elements of dance. In following the marching band theme, dela Cruz admitted that “the first thing that came to my mind was… Taylor Swift”. The singer’s costumes in her music videos for You Belong With Me and Me! - as well as the Fearless tour - featured variants of the marching band aesthetic, and dela Cruz used Swift’s signature style as the base for Octavia Prime’s unique look.

With the design’s theme firmly established, dela Cruz then turned to another music mogul, Janet Jackson for inspiration on finer details. Octavia Prime’s shoulder plates and tambourine-styled earrings were directly influenced by Jackson’s Rhythm Nation music video, combined with the aesthetic of her marching band outfit. Dela Cruz noted how Jackson performed like a band leader, and that ballsy attitude flowed through the design for Octavia Prime too. Both musicians carry confidence and a no-nonsense demeanor, which effectively comes across in the frame’s mannerisms too.

In addition to receiving the new-and-improved Octavia, Warframe also received more enhancements with its patch 1.96 hotfix. The Nihil Key was added for you to face the Glassmaker once again, and the Arcane Scorpion Helmet was removed from the shop to be replaced with the Operator Wolf Hood. General bug fixes were also addresses in the patch, including a fixed description error, crashing issues, and enhanced stability.
