Rumors are circulating that some US retailers have had their pre-order allocation of the new Warhammer 40,000 Indomitus limited. Could this point to a shortage of units on release day? Or has demand outstripped expectations?

It’s important to note that we have had mixed reports from retailers on this, and without further corroboration, we have not yet been able to confirm this to be true, or to the extent that supply has been affected. Until then, please take this as an internet rumor.

Youtube channel Sword and Steele posted a video earlier today titled Warhammer 40,000 Indomitus Sold Out Worldwide. A bold statement to make, but watching the video gives some credence to the idea. Host Naomi talks about a recent communication with Games Workshop. Originally, GW estimated that supplies would remain available for two days upon release, but has since told their retail network that the pre-orders they have placed will be the only delivery they receive. They have also maxed out the number of units they will receive to 45, any orders above 45 will be automatically reduced. Her side can be found at the start of her video.

To compound matters, a recent post on GWs own Warhammer Community site detailed a change in the order policy for direct customers ordering copies of Indomitus. Tucked away at the bottom of the post they included the following,

“We told you a while back that this limit would be six copies, but on reflection, we think that three will help ensure that even more hobbyists end up happy.”

Does this confirm that they may have underestimated the interest in 9th Edition and subsequent demand? Limited numbers per person is a wise thing to do, but if demand is as tight as some commentators are saying, then surely this should be reduced further to allow these extra copies to get to the people who want them, not into the hands of scalpers looking to make a quick buck.

It will be interesting to see what happens on pre-order day (July 11) and whether supplies really are as limited as some claim. We’ve been told on numerous occasions that ’loads of’ copies have been made, enough for everyone. Making this a limited run is bound to get people excited and concerned that they might miss out. the fact that GW has stated that there will be no second run has been heard before… and broken. Will they break their promise, or will they do a second production run to meet additional demand? Is this release really going to be a one-off limited launch box?
