Today, Games Workshop revealed an upcoming 9th edition of the world’s most popular miniature wargame Warhammer 40k. The new version represents a major revision to the rules, as well as new mechanics, redesigned miniatures, and much more. Here’s the cinematic trailer for the new edition that shows a thrilling battle between Space Marines and Necron Warriors
Details about the new edition can be found on the game’s brand new website as well as the Warhammer community site. There are new designs for the Necrons (or Newcrons, if you prefer) as well as new Space Marine model called the Assault Intercessor that can wield a chainsword, a beloved weapon also returning to Warhammer 40k in the new edition.
All of the current codexes and Psychic Awakening books will work seamlessly with the new edition, including the 3 upcoming Psychic Awakening books. During today’s livestream the next Black Library series was also revealed. Called Dawn of Fire, the new series promises to bring all of the narratives threads in the Warhammer 40k universe together into the cohesive, ongoing narrative.
Finally, Games Workshop revealed that a comprehensive new mobile app for Warhammer 40k is coming soon. An app that can track player’s armies and rules has been requested by the community for a long time, and this is possibly one of the most exciting announcements from today. A digital version of codexes will be included for free with a physical version. Warhammer fans have a lot to celebrate today.
