Warhammer 40K is getting its first live-action TV series, so long as a network or streaming platform picks it up.
Considering the popularity of Games Workshop’s tabletop games, it seems odd that it’s taken this long for anyone to use the source material to create a TV series. Marvel is making incredible bank with all their various comic-book sourced shows, so it’s about time Games Workshop got in on the action.
The show will be called Eisenhorn, with the character Inquisitor Gregor Einsehorn taking center stage. Inquisitors are the detectives of the dark world of Warhammer 40K, seeking out and neutralizing heretics, demons, and alien cabals before they can wreak havoc upon humanity.
Based on the Eisenhorn trilogy written by Dan Abnett back in 2001, expect the show to be grim, gothic, and an interesting mix of apocalyptic sci-fi and crime drama. Also, expect enough violence to ensure a “mature” rating.
“We are delighted to collaborate with Games Workshop to develop the beloved visionary world of Warhammer 40,000 into a TV series,” Spotnitz said in a press release. “There is nothing else like it on television, and we are incredibly excited to tap into our own experience creating imaginative, complex and compelling worlds to bring this incredible saga to the screen.”
Spotnitz has a lot of experience creating a hopeless and dystopian setting in Man In The High Castle, which will serve him well with Eisenhorn and the world of Warhammer 40K.
