Britain-based tabletop miniature gaming company Warlord Games recently expanded their Warlords of Erehwon fantasy warfare product line with miniatures inspired by the Japanese medieval era. The entire expansion includes eight new 28mm miniature packs that are available now and for pre-order on the Warlords Games online store.
The eight expansion packs allow you to add a variety of current and new denizens of Erehwon to your miniature wargame set. The packs include Samurai Heroes, Daimyo & Retinue, Ninja, Sohei Warrior Monks, Onna-bugeisha, Bandits & Brigands, Tengu, and Oni Ogres. The Daimyo & Retinue and Oni Ogres packs are currently on pre-order and scheduled to release in October this year. Each pack also comes as a set of 28mm metal unassembled and unpainted miniatures.
These new Denizens of Erehwon miniatures are seemingly inspired by the historical and mythical era of Feudal Japan. While they hold to Erehwon’s fantasy theme, they are also accurately modeled and detailed so as to allow you to field historically authentic armies if you choose. The number and variety of these miniatures will help you create multiple warbands for your Erehwon wargames, and would even work solidly in your tabletop RPG campaigns.
The Samurai Heroes set minis best suited as standard samurai, Daimyo lords, ninja, and shugyosha, a samurai ‘student of the way’ undertaking a pilgrimage or quest. The Daimyo & Retinue set includes minis modeled to fit the roles of vassals to the Shogun, lords, and clan leaders overseeing large sections of territory and numerous samurai.
The Ninja set comes with 10 minis of ninja wielding their iconic ninjatō, shuriken, and tekko-kagi (fighting claws). The Sohei Warrior Monks set includes 10 traditionally-dressed warrior monks wielding naginata in various postures. The Onna-bugeisha set features 10 of these female warriors, armed with the classic Japanese bow and quiver of arrows.
No Feudal Japan era mini set would be complete without adversaries, and the Bandits & Brigands pack provides plenty of those. True to form, these 10 minis come wielding an assortment of weapons, and dressed in a variety of clothing styles and detailed accessories such as hats, satchels, rope belts, and belt pouches.
Immersing into the fantasy aspects of Erehwon, the Tengu and Oni Ogres packs add five tengu and three oni ogres to your forces. Tengu are powerful protectors of forest and mountain regions, and are thought to be kami (holy spirits) or yokai (demons). These minis are suitably detailed and posed to fit either role. The three-armed oni ogres are superbly modeled with their terrifying visage and huge kanabō clubs.
