Light machine guns don’t usually make the list of top weapons currently available in Call of Duty: Warzone, however, the Bruen MK9 consistently ranks in the top 10 weapons currently available. There is clear dominance in Warzone by the M4A1 and MP7 in terms of sheer usage numbers, as the weapons are readily available throughout Verdansk, often leaving LMGs as an afterthought. However, the Bruen often sneaks its way into top tier rankings because it can essentially be converted into an incredibly lethal Assault Rifle.

Why doesn’t the Bruen make its way onto more player loadouts? Because it is awful to unlock. Players need to get 3 kills with the enemy near smoke using an LMG in 15 different matches. For those who don’t use a lot of LMG’s, this is painful to unlock without thermal sites, as users may need to resort to spraying into smoke and hoping they were close enough to it for it to count. For 800 CP, players can unlock the Chainbreaker from the Armory, which is a Holger LMG that comes with thermal sites to pursue completing this challenge with the ability to see through smoke. Alternatively, for 1200 CP, players can simply unlock “The Glitch”, which is a well kitted-out Bruen variant and skip the smoke challenge altogether.

Below, we offer a starter build, a moderate LMG build, as well as the best build available for the Bruen once all unlocks achieved.

Starter Bruen build

The Bruen can be incredibly lethal almost immediately. It will immediately become viable in Warzone as well as Modern Warfare Multiplayer, which is a huge relief to those who suffered through the smoke grenade spamming required to unlock the weapon. The rate of fire is a joy to experience. After unlocking, the below-recommended attachments add immediate viability.

  • Optic - GI Mini Reflex (3) Underbarrel - Commando Foregrip (4) Perk - Heavy Hitter (5) Stock - Forge TAC Stalker (8)

Secondary

For LMG players, there is a key decision to be made. If players are truly playing support, they may consider an anti-vehicle secondary. That said, with sometimes limited access to loadouts in Warzone, having an SMG or Sniper Rifle secondary makes more sense. For the starter build, we recommend the RPG.

Perks

  • EOD (Perk 1) Ghost (Perk 2) Amped (Perk 3)

Moderate Bruen LMG Build

Once you get to level 41 with your Bruen, some really cool attachments are unlocked that change the gameplay options for the weapon. Here we suggest some attachments with Warzone in mind that still let this beauty shred.

  • Muzzle - Tactical Suppressor (28) Barrel - XRK Horizon 23.0” (19) Rear Grip - Stippled Grip Tape (32) Ammunition - 200 Round Mags (26) Optic - Merc Thermal Optic (41)

With moderate progress through the weapon unlocks, players need to determine their role and access to alternate weapons. With overkill ruining access to the Ghost perk in Warzone, we would strongly recommend dual akimbo pistols, or sticking with the RPG. Until the no stock option is unlocked at 49, close quarters can be difficult with this beast.

  • Cold Blooded (Perk 1) Ghost (Perk 2) Tracker (Perk 3)

Optimal Bruen Build

With the Bruen fully unlocked, players have a wide range of playstyles that become available, especially the ability to turn this monster into a 60 round assault rifle. While giving up the 200 rounds can sting for hardcore LMG players, the sprint to fire, movement speed, and aim down sight speed that is gained from the swap is more than worth it. While the legendary “The Glitch” variant is impressive, we take a slightly different approach for our recommended optimal build.

  • Muzzle - Monolithic Suppressor (53) Barrel - XRK Horizon 23.0” (19) Stock - No Stock (49) Rear Grip - Stippled Grip Tape (32) Ammunition - 60 Round Mags (48)

Given the reduction of rounds, the addition of the monolithic suppressor to this build, and no stock, we would recommend an Akimbo dual Renetti build as the secondary weapon. Of course, akimbo pistols of all varieties are incredibly viable close-range weapons that allow players to keep the ghost trait active in the event they get to a loadout without a viable primary weapon to retain as secondary. If an appropriate weapon upgrade is laying around the loadout drop for an alternate, take it and enjoy staying off the radar.

With these three builds, players should able to crush the enemy in a variety of situations with the Bruen. As a committed non-LMG user, I have since been converted, this thing is a blast to equip.
