In a tight game of Warzone, getting eyes on your enemy first can mean the difference between wiping an enemy team and you and your squad being sent to the gulag. There are tons of tools to help teams coordinate and direct each other’s attention, most specifically the ping system, but having the right intel and optics on your weapons is just as important. A chunky iron sight isn’t going to do you, or your team, much good in a long-range encounter. The Spotter Scope, first appearing in Season 4, is unlike any other scope in the game. No one knew how it worked when it first arrived since it was one just a few pieces of gear that appeared in Warzone but not the base Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer. If you never bothered to figure out this incredibly useful scope, here’s everything you should know about it.

How The Spotter Scope Works

As you might guess based on the name, the Spotter Scope is designed to spot enemy players from long range. Similar to a Recon Drone, it will automatically ping enemies for a short while for your entire team to see. Unlike the Recon Drone, which is noisy and can be shot down, the other team won’t be able to notice you spotting them unless they actually see you.

Seeing you will also be more difficult because this scope doesn’t make a glint when you aim through it. Every other sniper scope makes a telltale shine when you are aiming through it that is a dead giveaway of your position, but the Spotter Scope keeps you hidden while tagging your marks since it can’t be used to deal any damage. To make this scope even more powerful, it has two zoom levels and it can be toggled to use a thermal vision mode. This will make it even easier to spot and tag enemies in the environment that would otherwise be much more difficult to see.

Finding And Using The Spotter Scope

The Spotter Scope is rated as “common” in the loot table, so finding one shouldn’t be too difficult in theory, yet it doesn’t tend to spawn as often as other tactical items. Any loot crate could hold one, but you are just as likely to see one out in the open on the ground or as a reward for completing contracts. Be aware that, even though it is called a scope, the Spotter Scope is technically a tactical item. That means you’ll have to make a choice between it and something else like the Heartbeat Sensor or Trophy System.

Finally, the primary downside to the Spotter Scope is that because it is a unique item in Warzone, there is no way to add it to any of your load-outs. That means you won’t be able to get this in any load out drops during a match and will have to rely on finding it in crates, as a contract reward, picking it off an enemy, or just happening upon one on the ground. However you come across one, this is one tool that every team should prioritize holding on to when given the chance.
