The day of reckoning has arrived for Warzone’s Grau meta. The most popular assault rifle in the game has finally been nerfed.

When the Grau 5.56 arrived back in Season 2, it was an incredible assault rifle that put all others to shame. The Grau’s combination of range, power, and ease of use thanks to its minuscule recoil meant that it was like firing a bullet laser that had almost no damage fall-off. For the longest time, it seemed that all of Warzone was using the Grau in their loadouts, and it got to the point where Infinity Ward hinted that they were going to take action.

Well, that action has finally arrived. Today’s patch adds 200-player game modes and a bunch of weapon tweaks that have hit the Grau hard.

Infinity Ward took aim at all of Grau’s strengths in the latest patch. To start, it has received a reduction to its damage range that will make it far less impactful in long-range firefights. An increase to “high-frequency recoil” means that longer bursts will see more missed bullets, meaning players won’t be able to just hold their finger on the trigger with the Grau any longer.

On top of those changes, both the Tempus 26.4” Archangel and FSS 20.8” Nexus barrels now don’t provide as much of a range boost or as much recoil compensation. In short, the Grau is no longer the default best gun in the game, and it’s time for the meta to move on.

The Grau wasn’t the only gun in Infinity Wards’ sights today. The MP5 has also been hit hard, with a reduction in damage range, less long-range damage from 10mm ammunition, and a recoil increase for 10mm ammo.

Meanwhile, other assault rifles and semi-auto rifles have seen buffs. The Kar98k now has faster ADS speed, less hip-fire spread, and increased damage range, while the Dragunov has a faster rate of fire, better recoil recovery, and a 2-hit kill minimum. Slug shotguns have received a buff across the board, with reduced ADS spread, increased damage to the lower torso, and better range.
