Call of Duty: Warzone’s Realism Mode is going to become a regular part of the game, according to Infinity Ward.
Last week, Call of Duty: Warzone replaced its regular quads mode with something called “Realism Battle Royale (Quads).” The new mode was essentially the same as Quads but included the “realism” modifier. This changes several key aspects of the game, including reduced HUD information so that you can’t see how many bullets you have left in the magazine. There’s also increased headshot damage and no on-screen map. In order to figure out where you are, you have to manually bring up the map to read your location.
For gun-nuts, Realism Mode brought a whole new element to Warzone’s gritty combat, and fans loved it. One Call of Duty YouTuber named Xtwo went straight to Infinity Ward’s Co-Design Director of Multiplayer Joe Cecot on Twitter to beg for Realism mode to remain a permanent fixture of the game.
“It is our intention to add it to the filter,” Cecot wrote back, much to Xtwo’s delight.
So get ready to have Realism appear more regularly on Warzone’s constantly shifting playlist. This week, Warzone gave us back Battle Royale Quads and Plunder Quads after removing it the week before in favor of Realism and Blood Money. There’s also a set of limited-time game modes in Call of Duty consisting of Boots on the Ground War, Realism Mosh Pit, All or Nothing, Face Off, and Stir-Crazy (10v10).
There’s been no official word from Infinity Ward on how long the current game modes will stay, but Warzone players are getting used to the frequent changes in the way you play. This keeps each match feeling fresh and interesting, an important quality in a genre that’s become as mature as battle royale first-person shooters.
In other Warzone news, you can kill people in the pre-game lobby and they stay dead now. Also, watch out for munitions boxes–they can be a bit dangerous.
