The Redskins are no more, and in an upcoming Madden NFL 21 update, the name will be replaced by a generic title. It will remain like this until a new name and logo is provided by the sports team.
This comes after the news that the Washington Redskins will change their name and logo. The original name was denounced by Native American groups and many folks on social media as part of the Black Lives Matter movement. As a result, both the owner Daniel Snyder and head coach Ron Rivera said that they want a new brand that would “inspire [their] sponsors, fans, and community for the next 100 years.”
An EA representative told USGamer that they’re happy with the decision made by the Washington team and will be featuring a generic name instead. They will then make the change when the new name and logo is provided by the NFL.
But it won’t stop there. EA will change the commentary and audio, motion graphics, stadium art, environments, crowd gear, signage, uniforms, and presentation to make it fit the current NFL situation. However, EA admitted that there will be “some outdated Washington references in other areas of the game at launch.” Over time, all Redskins references will be removed from the game.
As the Washington news has come shortly before its August 25th release, these changes won’t be included on the disc; you will have to update the game online.
Madden NFL 21 will feature a new feature called Face of the Franchise: Rise To Fame, which is a career mode that has “all-out levels of agency and depth” with the end goal of being in the Hall of Fame. There is also a new control method that’s named the Skill Stick, which allows the player to link skills together in a combo.
Another upgrade from last year’s Madden is the new animations for the defenders. Rather than ramming full speed with a bad angle, the defenders brace for impact, making a more realistic football experience.
While not a proper portrayal of the beautiful game of football, EA Vancouver seems to be going all out with Madden NFL 21 by replacing all mention of the Redskins and adding new features like the skill stick.
