Wasteland 3 reviews are out today, and the general consensus appears to indicate that it’s pretty solid. If you’re curious about whether or not you should pick it up when it launches this Friday, August 28, read on.

The Wasteland series is illustrious in the video game sci-fi world, having originally debuted as an Interplay RPG back in 1988. The second instalment in the series - 2014’s Wasteland 2 - didn’t arrive until 26 years later, at which point inXile entertainment had taken the reins in terms of development. Wasteland 3 is the follow-up to that iteration of the franchise.

Wasteland 3 in particular employs an isometric perspective and involves using squad-based tactics in turn-based combat. The shape of the story is determined by choices you make as you progress through the game. Interestingly, as well as conventional multiplayer - also known as synchronous - Wasteland 3 incorporates asynchronous multiplayer, meaning that people playing against one another don’t necessarily have to be online at the same time. You can also tackle the game in co-op mode, meaning that you can experience it while collaborating with a friend.

Whether you’re a fan of the series since the ’80s or a newcomer who is curious to see what it entails, this roundup includes a variety of opinions to help you decide if Wasteland 3 is likely to be up your street or not.

First of all, though, be sure to check out TheGamer review. We gave it a clean 5/5, and called it “an RPG where choices actually matter.” We were particularly taken aback by its ability to cultivate a world in which the player actually exists, as opposed to one that tasks you with arbitrarily moving through it for no real purpose.
