One of the biggest trends to hit YouTube over the last year is the “expert” insight. A new formation of the classic reaction video, instead of watching fellow gamers doing their quick takes, now it is on knowledgeable individuals to bring new ways to think about video games. The recent game to bring new levels of interest is Sony’s highly successful Ghost of Tsushima, and the unique ways of approaching it.

One YouTuber taking the reins in exploring Ghost of Tsushima from an academic standpoint is Metatron. Metatron is a well known Italian YouTuber who tackles not only Japanese History but language, weaponry, and video games. With Metatron being a Japanese professor, he decided to take a look at a game that sought to be a realistic representation of the samurai era.

Metatron primarily uses Japanese throughout the video which includes subtitles. This is not Metatron’s first look at Ghost of Tsushima but it is the first where he has had the opportunity to play the game. It is absolutely worth a watch as Metatron provides context to the Mongol invasion that serves as the historical framework of the game and goes into details about the samurai.

Metatron’s previous video on developer Sucker Punch’s latest release was two months ago as he reacted to the Ghost of Tsushima gameplay trailer from the State of Play. That video has amassed over 275,000 views and sits as one of his most popular gaming focused uploads .

While expert insights have grown to be a popular type of reaction video, another kind that is getting attention features those who are actually in the game. Voice actor reactions have grown to be more prominent type of YouTube video and a considerably more enlightening one. Ghost of Tsusima received this treatment with Daisuke Tsuji, the voice actor of Jin, playing through the opening of the game.

Ghost of Tsushima is receiving a lot reactions across the gaming world with even haiku experts weighing in on how strong Jin’s poetry skills are. One of the biggest responses has come from Japanese audiences who made Ghost of Tsushima a giant success in the country. The popularity of the western-developed samurai game took the industry by surprise as Ghost of Tsushima sold out in Japan.

So with Ghost of Tsushima continuing to garner support from the gaming community, there are likely many more reactions to come. It won’t be long before cinephiles take the chance to examine Ghost of Tsushima’s Kurosawa mode.

Ghost of Tsushima is available now exclusively for the PS4.
