After a leak that spoiled its big reveal, Ubisoft finally confirmed Watch Dogs Legion at the studio’s E3 press conference today. The game is set to release next year, on March 6, 2020. Ubisoft showcased the ambitious title that the studio is currently developing, which will focus on recruiting non-playable characters.
The gameplay footage of Watch Dogs Legion that was unveiled at E3 showed the player switching up between multiple recruited characters, that includes a classic ex-spy, a sassy robotics expert, a bare-knuckle champion, and a sweet retired assassin, among many others. Each recruited character will be able to perform unique tasks and abilities whether it be infiltration, combat, or drone-hacking.
The player’s primary mission in Watch Dogs Legion is to recruit people in a resistance group as a response to the growing threat of a totalitarian police-state that imposes heavy surveillance along the streets of London. Every character that the player will recruit will be fully-voiced, with origin stories of their own, and Ubisoft implied that it is up to the player to form their own groups as they see fit, whether it be composed of ex-MI5 agents or sweet yet badass grandmas.
Given that Watch Dogs Legion will allow players to take control of any NPC in the game, which was previously predicted by leaks, Ubisoft explained at E3 that all cinematics will vary, depending on the character that the player is currently in control of. This new feature will definitely make for diverse gameplay, that will add tons of replayability given that players can easily switch up characters and play with different dynamics.
Watch Dogs Legion will be the third game in the Watch Dogs series, which is set in a futuristic dystopian London, where totalitarianism reigns and drones fly-over the city that has now become a “surveillance state.” Ubisoft revealed that the heroes of Watch Dogs Legion will be the citizens of London themselves, who have are forced to stand up and take down the authoritarian government that has plagued the country.
Watch Dogs Legion launches March 6, 2020, for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Stadia.
