Some super innovative Alice in Wonderland fans have created their very own incredible (and suitably creepy) game environments using the free game development software Core.
Core is aimed at making the design and publishing of games as accessible and streamlined as possible, with the help of the Unreal Engine. They describe themselves as a “radically accessible game construction kit, content exchange, and game-playing platform, all in one.”
A recent endeavor held by Core in collaboration with American McGee (Alice: Madness Returns) was an Alice in Wonderland Art Contest entitled “Through The Looking Glass,” for which anyone could submit their Wonderland-themed game worlds created using the Core software. The competition was open to both seasoned developers and those who had zero experience in game design.
Have a look at this trailer which showcases their hard work. You’ll notice more than a few allusions to McGee’s Alice: Madness Returns, which put a dark twist on the Lewis Carroll’s original Wonderland.
You’ll also see the winning entry at 0:27 entitled Wonderland:The Scattered Woods by emtastik. All creations are available to experience now for free inside Core - which is currently in its Open Alpha for PC - once you download and sign up here. If you’re keen on entering the next art contest yourself, keep a lookout on their Twitter account for regular updates.
