You can’t quite simulate the broken teeth and smell of cheap beer, but hockey games have gotten pretty realistic in recent years. So realistic, in fact, that NHL players are now using them to simulate games in lieu of the regular hockey season.

NHL 20 Hockey Night is a brand-new online show from New Jersey Devils defenseman P.K. Subban. In the series, prominent NHL players stay frosty during quarantine by squaring off in games of EA’s NHL 20.

The first episode features Nashville Predators defenseman Roman Josi hits the ice against the Winnipeg Jets’ Anthony Bitetto. P.K. acts as both a host and a commentator, spectating the game like a proper sports broadcaster while also providing some much-needed entertainment to hockey fans.

It’s a pretty cool idea, especially considering that we have no estimate on when hockey - or professional sports in general, for that matter - will start back up. For hockey fans looking forward to seeing more of their favorite players, or just wanting to see a game of any kind, this is a great project that I’d definitely like to see more of.

You can watch the first episode right now on YouTube, and more are scheduled to drop in the coming weeks.
