You can turn Resident Evil 3 into a classic cabinet blaster game with this motion-controlled gun.
Resident Evil 3 is good, but you know what’s better? Resident Evil 3 in VR. If Valve can do it with Half-Life: Alyx can do it, so can Capcom, right?
Well, maybe not. But if you’re not willing to wait for Capcom to VR-ify RE3, you can pick up the Arkade Blaster for the next best thing.
The Arkade Blaster is a new device that turns almost any first-person shooter game into a semi-virtual experience. It uses your phone’s motion sensors to replace your mouse, essentially turning your phone into a VR controller. It also displays the game on your phone mounted to the gun, so you only see where your gun is pointed.
Set-up is simple. Pair your phone to the game via Steam Link, and then pair the Arkade Blaster to your phone via Bluetooth. The Blaster has a thumbstick precisely where your left thumb is along with a bunch of buttons on the other side of the barrel providing you with full control of the game. The trigger replaces the left-click of your mouse to imitate firing a real gun.
In the video above, you can see an Arkade Blaster spokesman give it a try with Resident Evil 3. It certainly looks immersive, although the controls don’t appear to be quite as precise as with a mouse. Also, you’re still playing the game on your phone’s tiny screen, which might reduce your overall graphics quality (depending on your phone).
The Arkade Blaster is available from Indiegogo for $100 USD. Shipping starts this June (hopefully–coronavirus logistical problems are still a thing), and you can even get it in several different color variations including a Pewdiepie special edition. Best of all, Arkade Blaster works with “most” PC first-person shooters, including Overwatch, Counter-Strike, Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite, PUBG, Apex Legends, and many more.
It also works with a bunch of mobile titles if that’s your thing.
