Speedrunners have been taking to DOOM Eternal in droves in an effort to uncover the fastest possible route. While usually something that gets perfected over years, we may have an early candidate for the fastest possible speedrun of id Software’s latest title.

In a new video posted by IGN, id employees Marty Stratton (executive producer), Hugo Martin (director of Eternal), Jerry Keehan (level designer), and Evan Eubanks (lead programmer) watch as one player utterly decimates their latest creation in a mere 27 minutes. Talk about lasting 20 hours.

As Martin noted, “How long does he take to figure this out? This is nuts.” The run comes from Twitch streamer Xamide, who currently has an even faster run posted on their YouTube channel. Clearly a pro at the game, you can see all kinds of exploits being utilized that skip entire level segments.

id isn’t keen to remove those exploits. In fact, Martin jokes about adding some extras that only speedrunners would find. It seems that they are happy players are discovering these shortcuts, likely because it means they’ve done an excellent job at directing more casual players. If most people didn’t think to use these glitches, then that means Eternal has completed its job successfully.
