It’s been about a month since Mortal Kombat 11 was officially revealed at The Game Awards, but at the time developer NetherRealm was only willing to showcase a CG trailer confirming two fighters: Scorpion and Raiden. However, a bigger reveal is set for later today, where Mortal Kombat 11 will get the grand treatment, including a gameplay-focused livestream and hands-on event.
While MK fans around the world may not be able to attend the Mortal Kombat 11 event, which has invited all manner of celebrities and gaming personalities, they can watch the gameplay reveal live via Twitch. The event is set to begin at 11am PT and will be available on NetherRealm’s Twitch channel.
The full Mortal Kombat 11 reveal is said to last about 1 hour and should include plenty of gameplay. While the stream won’t be as in-depth as some of the Mortal Kombat character breakdowns that fans have seen in the past, there should still be a lot for them to absorb.
Most assuredly the Mortal Kombat 11 stream will include some character reveals, confirmations of which MK favorites are joining the roster for this 11th mainline iteration. The MK roster is always a contentious element of the game, as NetherRealm has to carefully choose who does and doesn’t make the cut. Moreover, there are usually a few crossover characters included in each Mortal Kombat release – Jason from Friday the 13th, for example – but oftentimes those additions are saved for DLC.
The other big question surrounding Mortal Kombat 11 is how it will mix up the fighting game formula this time around. MKX switched things up by giving each fighter three different styles of play, which helped give players even more options when facing off against an opponent.
In addition to those key questions, the Mortal Kombat 11 gameplay stream should give fans a sense of the story. Whether it will pick up where the last game left off, with Raiden corrupted and Liu Kang and Kitana in control of NetherRealm, is unclear, but it would be surprising not to see the MK kids return once again.
Needless to say, there is a lot for NetherRealm to cover in an hour and we will see what they are willing to reveal. If nothing else, there should be a lot of bloody gameplay to enjoy. And if the rumors are true, there may even be a playable demo on the way.
Mortal Kombat 11 releases April 23, 2019 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
