One tweet, a concept photo posted by the likes of BossLogic, has sent the DC fandom on a quest for the truth. Like Rorschach before them, uncertainty wanes thin, as a multitude of hints and clues riddled within the concept photo suggest the Watchmen are joining a bevy of other iconic characters featured in the next installment of Injustice.

Titled a mere INJUSTIC3 by the artist himself, this followup could be something truly interesting with the likes of Ozymandias, Dr. Manhattan, and even the Comedian at one’s disposal. But, is it all concept or based in fact?

The photo posted by the artist, real name Nikolai Baslajik, hides within it a variety of Watchmen callouts, chief among them being the Doomsday Clock in the background. Of main interest to hardcore Watchmen fans is the Smiley Face pin, owned initially by the Comedian and was discovered by Rorschach at the very beginning of the graphic novel. There’s also the small aspect within the title itself, the letter “i” featuring Dr Manhattan’s signature symbol, which rests on his forehead.

What makes the theory even more convincing is the comic arc involving main DC characters meeting the Watchmen in a limited series aptly called Doomsday Clock, which ran for 12 issues from 2017 to 2019. BossLogic didn’t stop there, as a later Tweet shows what appears to be Dr Manhattan behind a very similar background. With the HBO hit TV show’s most recent culmination ringing loud with praise, it would only make sense for NetherRealm to ride that high by utilizing Watchmen characters in Injustice 3.

This reveal comes off the heels of yet another DC video game project, seemingly titled Suicide Squad. An innuendo drenched within the poster that as of yet remains unconfirmed is that the game will feature the antagonist group of talented DC villains going head-to-head against the Justice League.

More info on this experience and the Injustice sequel will be revealed at the DC FanDome event, which is scheduled for Agust 22nd at 10 AM PT.
