The entirety of The Last Of Us Part II was leaked a few days ago, which of course sent the gaming community into yet another Last Of Us-related tizz. We’re just worried that the leaks could mean a spike in crunch for the already-frazzled development team behind the game.

Sony and Naughty Dog had only just released official statements saying the release of Part II was to be delayed indefinitely thanks to the coronavirus-induced uncertainty predicted in the foreseeable future. That was a massive blow to fans who were expecting the game’s release at the end of May 2020.

The leaks coincided almost exactly with an official announcement made by Sony which revealed a new release date for Part II - 19th June 2020. That’s really soon.

So of course, one has to wonder at what this could mean for the development team who now have to polish up the game in time for its fast-approaching release, whilst still trying to keep up morale after the crushing blow delivered by the leaks.

The leaks are believed to have been the product of an overworked Naughty Dog employee who wished to stage an ethically-driven attempt at protesting the company’s outrageous crunch culture. If that is indeed the case, it shows just how bad things can get working on a project of this calibre.

However, when announcing the game’s indefinite postponement, Naughty Dog did claim that the game was very near completion, so ideally there isn’t that much left to do anyway. But then again, this is The Last Of Us we’re talking about.
