Last year we discovered the terrible news that Animal Crossing staple Mr. Resetti was to be laid off from his job. He was employed to shout at players for not saving before quitting and to chastise those frequently using this to reset their game. Since Animal Crossing: New Horizons features an autosave function, Mr. Resetti appeared to be no longer employed. However, fear not for we have discovered that the lovable but irritable mole has a new and entirely fitting job on your island.
We first learned of Mr. Resetti’s unemployment at E3 when project lead Aya Kyoguko told Mashable, “…unfortunately, because there’s no necessity to reset the game or reset button on the Switch, Mr. Resetti had a hard time. He was laid off from his position.” She went on to say “We also believe that Mr. Resetti is looking for a new job after his layoff. So please look forward to that.”
Now we think we’ve found Mr. Resetti’s new calling in New Horizons and to locate him you need to literally call… the rescue service. That’s right we think Mr. Resetti’s new job is helping stuck players out of a jam. Let’s examine the evidence. First up, the icon on your nook phone.
Take a closer look at that rescue service helicopter. It has a very familiar helmet on the top and some whisker styled markings on the front. However, that’s not all we’re going on.
If you get stuck and need to call the rescue service you’ll hear this battle cry as they come to find you.
Long time fans of the franchise will recognize this phrase from back when Mr. Resetti was employed in his previous job. Speaking of which, there’s also another mention of his past employment when you are safely transported back to the location of your choosing, including your home, airport or plaza.
After being dropped off there’s a random message about auto-saving and resetting, potentially a heads up that Mr. Resetti may still be bitter about his redeployment.
The rescue service itself is conducted under cover of a loading screen and the “Go, Rangers” cry so we never actually see Mr. Resetti. While this means we cannot confirm our theory we’re more than convinced that he’s moved from shouting about people saving to actually saving people.
Thank you for your service Mr. Resetti. We’re glad to see it appears you finally got out of the unemployment queue.
