12 Snow White & Fletchling
Snow White is officially Disney’s first princess and sets the precedent for what an “official” one is, one is that she must have an animal companion, and Snow White has a whole forest of animals as hers, quite literally. Snow White’s animal companions consist of all different animals like birds, chipmunks, deer, etc.
There are a number of Pokémon that would fit suit her but the Pokémon partner most suited to her is Fletchling. Fletchling is described as being a very friendly and peaceful Pokémon that sing beautiful songs, making it a perfect fit for Disney’s first princess.
11 Cinderella & Stoutland
Cinderella also has a number of animal companions in her movie, like birds and the little mice she makes clothing for. Cinderella also has a horse named Major, and a dog named Bruno as companions. Bruno is a bloodhound that Cinderella had raised as a puppy.
He loves Cinderella and is very loyal to her. For that reason, Stoutland would make an excellent Pokémon partner for Cinderella. Stoutland is known as the Big-Hearted Pokémon and they are considered to be valiant and goodnatured.
10 Aurora & Floette
Aurora doesn’t have a lot of screentime compared to other Princesses. What is known about her is she’s a slightly naive but kind-hearted girl who’s a hopeless romantic. Aurora’s only friends growing up were the animals in the forests and her “aunts,” the good fairies Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather.
The fairies renamed her Briar Rose to keep her safe. The perfect Pokémon companion for this princess is the Pokémon Floette. It’s a fairy Pokémon that looks like a flower. It can also learn movies like Rest, Sleep Talk and Snore.
9 Ariel & Primarina
Ariel is the 4th Disney Princess and is the first one to start off as being non-human, as she’s a mermaid. She’s known for her beautiful singing voice which is what attracts Prince Eric to her at first, and what Ursala takes away from her.
The perfect partner for her is Primarina, the Soloist Pokémon. Primarina is described as having a beautiful singing voice. It also uses its voice in battle and it looks like a mermaid, there couldn’t better a better Pokémon for Ariel!
8 Belle & Sinistea
Belle is the first princess to have her home country confirmed in her movie. Belle shines as one of Disney’s more intellectual princesses, as she has a love of reading. She’s confident and very outspoken about her thoughts and feelings.
Belle’s most notable companions are the servants in the castle who were turned into animated objects. Who she gets along best with is Chip Potts, the young son of Mrs. Potts (who Belle loves very much). For that reason, the perfect Pokémon partner for Belle would be Sinistea.
7 Jasmine & Torracat
Jasmine is the first princess from a non-Eurocentric background. She’s also the first to not be the titular character of the movie she’s from, though no one can argue her importance in the Aladdin franchise. Jasmine is independent and strong-willed, which puts her at odds with what is expected of her as a princess.
Aladdin is the first human friend she makes, though she’s close to her pet tiger Rajah, who is very protective of her. A great Pokémon partner for Jasmine would be Torracat. Its tiger-like appearance and fiery temper would match Jasmine’s passionate one.
6 Pocahontas & Skwovet
Pocahontas is the first to be based on a real person, albeit very loosely. She’s also the first Disney Princess with North American roots. The daughter of Chief Powhatan, Pocahontas is an adventure-seeking and deeply spiritual person. She shows wisdom, kindness, and a strong connection with all parts of nature. Pocahontas has two main animal companions in the first movie, a hummingbird named Flit and a raccoon named Meeko.
A great Pokémon partner for Pocahontas would be a Skwovet. Skwovet is described as being berry obsessed, constantly eating and looking for them. It’s a personality trait that best describes the always hungry Meeko, though he doesn’t limit himself to just berries.
5 Mulan & Kommo-o
Mulan is the only Disney Princess who doesn’t have a noble title. Instead, Mulan earned her place among the others for the heroic deeds she accomplished in the first movie. She’s inspired by the Chinese legendary figure Hua Mulan. Courageous and self-reliant, she has trouble fitting into the role that’s expected of her, but with her determination and wit, she finds the acceptance of who she truly is inside from the people around her.
Mulan’s animal companions are her horse Khan, the “good luck charm” cricket Cri-Kee, and Mushu the dragon. A great Pokémon partner for Mulan would be Kommo-o, the scales of this Pokémon look like armor which goes well with Mulan’s warrior spirit.
4 Tiana & Slurpuff
Tiana is the first African American princess and the first princess with a movie set in the 20th century. Tiana is a very ambitious, hardworking, and resourceful woman who dreams of owning her own restaurant. She’s also the first princess to turn into an animal in her movie. A great Pokémon partner for Tiana would be Slurpuff.
This adorable Pokémon is described as having a great sense of smell and specializes in detecting sweet smells. In Pokémon lore, pastry chefs befriend Slufpuffs to help them improve the taste of their pastries, and a Pokémon like that would surely help Tiana make the greatest beignets in the world.
3 Rapunzel & Smeargle
Rapunzel is the 10th Disney Princess and the first one to have a CGI film. Loosely based on the original story of Rapunzel, her long hair has magical properties, able to heal and restore (Gothel’s) youth. She’s clever, playful, adventurous (and a bit naive), and is very charming.
She also has a passion for art and is a very talented painter as seen by the paintings that cover the walls and ceiling of her tower. So what Pokémon would be a great partner for a painter like her? Smeargle of course! Literally known as the “Painter Pokémon”, Smeargle has a long paintbrush-like tail that oozes with a paint-like liquid.
2 Merida & Mudsdale
Merida is the 11th official Disney Princess, and the second princess to have a CGI film. She’s headstrong, free-spirited, and has no interest in the customs and traditions that she is expected to follow as a princess, which puts her at odds with her mother. She’s very athletic and is a skilled sword fighter, horse rider, and the best archer in the entire kingdom.
She’s the first princess to not have a love interest and the first (and so far only) princess that doesn’t sing or dance in her movie. The Pokémon partner to best suit Merida’s wild spirit would be a Mudsdale.
1 Moana & Mantine
Moana is tenacious, nearly fearless, and dedicated to the well-being of her people and village, but has a deep passion for the ocean and dreams of traveling beyond the island’s barrier reef. Her story, while inspired by Māori mythology, customs, and traditions, is a mostly original story.
Moana has two animal companions in the movie, a pig named Pua and a rooster named Heihei, but the best Pokémon partner for her would be a Mantine. Mantine’s design appears to be based on a manta ray. Moana’s grandmother Tala is a great source of support and guidance for Moana in the movie, and when she dies she gets reincarnated as a mystical manta ray.
